Men’s Tennis Falls in First Puerto Rico Match

The Capital University men's tennis team competed in its first of three dual matches in Puerto Rico Sunday, suffering a 6-3 setback against the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, an NCAA Division II school.


The Crusaders (1-2 overall) took one of three doubles matches before dropping four of six in singles.


Sophomore Spencer Walter (Hilliard, Ohio) and freshman Beau Streety (Tuscon, Ariz.) teamed up at the second doubles spot for a commanding 8-2 victory.


In singles play, freshman Dale Booher (Hartville, Ohio) recovered from a first-set defeat to win 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 over Mayaguez's Kevin Ramos at the No. 3 slot.


Sophomore Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio) provided Capital's other victory at No. 6, leading Carlos Atienza 6-1, 4-1 before Atienza retired from the match.


The Crusaders continue competition on their spring break trip Tuesday against the University of Puerto Rico-Humacao at 10 a.m.
