The Capital University men's tennis team opened the 2014 spring season on a high note Saturday, defeating local rival Ohio Wesleyan 8-1 at Gordon Field House in Delaware.
The Crusaders (1-1 overall) won two of three doubles matches before sweeping all six singles matches to post their first dual victory of the 2013-14 spring season.
Buchanan defeated Richie Karban 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 1 slot, while Walter took down John Russell of the Battling Bishops (1-2) by a 6-4, 7-5 count. At No. 3, Booher was victorious against Conor Breen 6-2, 6-0, while fellow freshman Beau Streety beat Austin Okray 6-4, 6-2 at the fourth singles spot.
Sophomore Gian Carlo DiMichelangelo (Westerville, Ohio) downed OWU's Dane Poppe 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. Judson rounded out singles at the No. 6 slot with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Chris Brinich.
Booher and Buchanan teamed up at No. 1 doubles for an 8-2 triumph over Brinich and Karban. At No. 3, Judson and Walter upended Okray and Russell, 8-5.
Capital continues spring play on Feb. 23 as part of the team's spring break trip to Puerto Rico. The Crusaders take on UPR Mayaguez at 2 p.m. before taking on UPR Humacao on Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. and Augustana (Ill.) on Feb. 27 at 2:30 p.m.
