The Capital University men's and women's tennis teams kicked off their respective 2013-14 campaigns Sunday with losses against Adrian (Mich.) in non-conference dual meets at the Capital Tennis Courts.

The men (0-1 overall) fell by a 6-3 count, while the women (0-1) were downed 9-0. The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 on the men's side and 2-0 on the women's.

Sophomore Gian Carlo DiMichelangelo (Westerville, Ohio) picked up wins in both doubles and singles to lead the Capital men. DiMichelangelo paired with classmate Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio) at the third position to post the team's lone doubles victory, an 8-3 result over Ryan Delacy and Spencer Georgetti of Adrian.

In singles play, DiMichelangelo, playing at the No. 5 spot, knocked off Delacy 8-6 in a pro set, while freshman Beau Streety, making his collegiate debut at No. 4, recorded a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Alex Amos to start his career.

Junior Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) registered a pair of strong efforts in both doubles and singles to lead the women. She teamed with senior Sara Ireland (Charleston, W.Va.) to come close in an 8-6 loss at No. 2 doubles. Hohenstein then posed a strong challenge against Kylee Bezeau at No. 3 singles before eventually falling 6-0, 7-5.

The Crusader women return to play on Oct. 4 for a non-conference home match against Wittenberg. Play is scheduled to begin at 4:30 in Columbus.

The men visit Kalamazoo (Mich.) on Sept. 27-30 for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tournament.
