COLUMBUS – The Capital University men's tennis team continued its five-meet home stand Friday with a 9-0 sweep over Central State in a non-conference dual at the Capital Tennis Courts.
Senior John Murray (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and sophomore Kenny Duncan (Poland, Ohio) set the tone at the top doubles spot and first two singles positions. The duo combined to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles before Murray posted a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 1 singles and Duncan followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at second singles.
Freshmen Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio) and Gian Carlo DiMichelangelo (Westerville, Ohio) won at No. 2 doubles by an 8-0 score. Senior Doug Gugel-Bryant (Lancaster, Ohio) and freshman Jesse Faulkner (Columbus, Ohio) also were victorious by an 8-0 count at third doubles.
DiMichelangelo and Faulkner knocked off each of their opponents by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores at Nos. 3 and 5 singles, respectively. Sophomore Josh Dotson (Temperance, Mich.) fell in his first set before capturing a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9) victory at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Andrew Collins (Clyde, Ohio) registered a 6-2, 6-0 win at the sixth slot.
The Crusaders continue non-conference home competition Wednesday against Cedarville. Match time is slated for 4 p.m. at Capital.
