Capital Moves to 2-0 in Conference

COLUMBUS – The Capital University men's tennis team remained unbeaten in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday with a 7-2 victory over Heidelberg at the Capital Tennis Courts.

The Crusaders (6-2 overall, 2-0 OAC), who are now just one win shy of matching their 2011-12 win total, swept the three doubles matches before taking four of the six singles contests. Freshman Spencer Walter (Hilliard, Ohio) took part in both singles and doubles victories to lead Capital.

Walter combined with fellow freshman Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio) to defeat Cliff Goetz and Zach Schwenning of the Student Princes by an 8-1 score at No. 1 doubles. Senior John Murray (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and sophomore Kenny Duncan (Poland, Ohio) claimed an 8-3 victory at second doubles, while senior Doug Gugel-Bryant (Lancaster, Ohio) teamed with freshman Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio) for an 8-2 triumph at No. 3.

Walter defeated Dorion Kempf of the 'Berg (2-7, 0-1) by a 7-5, 6-0 count. Sophomore Josh Dotson (Temperance, Mich.) and freshman Jesse Faulkner (Columbus, Ohio) also won in straight sets at the Nos. 5 and 6 slots, respectively.

Freshman Gian Carlo DiMichelangelo (Westerville, Ohio) needed three sets for his win at No. 4. Buchanan and Murray were each edged out in three sets at the top two singles positions.

Capital continues home action next Saturday against Central State. First serve is slated for 10 a.m. at the Capital Tennis Courts.
