Capital Defeats Muskingum, 3-1

NEW CONCORD, Ohio– Capital Men's Soccer defeated Muskingum University, 3-1, on Wednesday evening at the North Athletic Turf Field. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 7-4-3 overall, 4-2-0 in the OAC, while the Fighting Muskies drop to 7-8-1, 0-6-0 in conference play.

Muskingum took the early lead, scoring in the 13th minute of play. Jordan Work sent the ball into the back of the net, securing the lead for the Muskies. Ryan Peck was credited with the assist. 

Capital tied things up in the 30th minute. Freshman Mujahid Abdel-Ghani (Toledo, Ohio) sent a cross ball in front of the net and junior Matt Scheper (Cincinnati, Ohio) took a shot, which was blocked. Junior Nick Scharfenberger (Louisville, Ky.) got a foot on the blocked ball and sent it into the back of the net to tie up the score. 

In the second half, Scharfenberger scored his second goal of the match. In the 63rd minute, Abdel-Ghani sent a through ball to Scharfenberger. Scharfenberger ran onto the ball and took a strike from the right side of the box. The ball went sailing past Muskingum's goalkeeper and into the net.  

In the 66th minute, senior Greg Knox (Oxford, Mich.) chipped the ball into the box. Scheper headed the ball towards the net and senior Tyler Wujczyk (Beverly Hills, Mich.) finished it off with a header of his own. This marks Wujczyk's first goal of the season. 

The Crusaders will take on Ohio Northern University, Saturday, October 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.
