COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Capital men's soccer team secured its first conference win of the season on Wednesday night at Bernlohr Stadium. The Crusaders defeated Heidelberg University, 2-1, and now sit at 4-3-3 (1-1 OAC) on the season.
Heidelberg took the early lead. In the 10th minute of play, the Crusaders kicked the ball out of bounds near the 10-yard line, giving the Student Princes possession. Cory Gilbert threw the ball into play just short of the net and Sigurd Ilestad got a head on it. The ball was tipped by Kyle Morias, but he was unable to make the save and the ball landed in the back of the net.
WOO TIES IT UP
Less than a minute after Heidelberg's goal, the Crusaders tied it up. Senior Greg Knox (Oxford, Mich.) took the throw-in for Capital, launching the ball from the sidelines to the front of the net. Senior Brandon Woo (Hilliard, Ohio) headed the ball into the net and the Crusaders earned their first goal of the evening.
SCHEPER WITH THE GAME WINNER
In the 24thminute, Greg Knox took the corner for the Purple and White. Junior Matt Scheper (Cincinnati, Ohio) got a piece of the ball in front of the net and knocked it in for the Crusaders. Scheper is credited with the game-winner and Cap's second goal of the evening.
Capital will take on John Carroll University Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Don Shula Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
