COLUMBUS, Ohio – Adding to his list of postseason accolades, Capital University Men's Soccer's senior forward Chewy Gordon has been named a D3soccer.com Second Team All-American, the organization announced on Friday. Gordon is the first Capital player to receive that honor. The D3soccer.com All-American teams are selected by the D3soccer.com staff, D-III soccer coaches and sports information directors from across the country from more than 500 nominations.
This is the second All-American award for Gordon this year after he became the first player in program history to be named First Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches. He was also named First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference, OAC Forward of the Year, First Team All-Great Lakes Region and First Team All-Ohio.
Gordon dazzled for the Crusaders this year by scoring 24 goals and chipping in one assist for a total of 49 points. Gordon finished tied for third in the country in goals. In 18 games, the Westerville, Ohio native netted four hat tricks and he scored multiple goals in eight games. Gordon set a program record with nine game-winning goals, the second-most in the country. He led the OAC in goals by eight and led the conference in points by 11.
In his career, Gordon scored 43 goals and recorded eight assists for 94 points in 68 games. He scored 18 game-winning goals in his four years.
Gordon was the point-man for the most prolific offensive Capital team in program history as the Crusaders scored a record-setting 63 goals in 2018. Capital earned the title of co-regular season OAC champions for the first time since 2008 and became the first team in program history to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years. Also for the second year in a row, Capital won its opening tournament game and advanced to the Round of 32.
