COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior forward Chewy Gordon of Capital University Men's Soccer dominated over the weekend and has earned the Ohio Athletic Conference's Men's Offensive Player of the Week award for his efforts. A native of Westerville, Ohio, Gordon scored five goals over two games as Capital picked up two wins.
As co-hosts of the 2018 Fred Myers-adidas Challenge, the Crusaders welcomed Hanover College (Ind.) to Bernlohr Stadium on Friday night. Gordon opened the game's scoring in the 12th minute with a strike from the middle of the box and then added a second goal in the 23rd minute. The Crusaders beat Hanover 7-2.
The offensive barrage continued on Saturday against Waynesburg University (Pa.) with an 8-0 win. Gordon one-upped himself by recording his first career hat trick. Goals in the fifth, 28th and 55th minutes put the game out of reach. His five goals earned him the Dick Gauthier Award as MVP of the Fred Myers-adidas Challenge.
After netting a career-high 12 goals in 2017, Gordon has scored seven goals through Capital's three games this season. He has scored the game-winning goal in all three games.
