COLUMBUS, Ohio – On the night that Capital University Men's Soccer (9-6-1, 3-3-1 OAC) celebrated the careers of four seniors, the John Carroll University Blue Streaks came to Purmort Field at Bernlohr Stadium and beat the Crusaders, 2-0.
The match was a free-flowing affair from the start with both teams able to maintain possession and build their attacks. However, that possession rarely led to legitimate scoring threats.
The Blue Streaks (13-2-1, 5-2 OAC) took advantage of their first opportunity to strike and took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute. After controlling the ball, Hayden Parente dribbled right through the heart of Capital's defense. Parente found himself in space at the top of the 18-yard box and let a shot rip that found the bottom corner of the net. The goal was his seventh of the season.
Neither team was able to generate many chances after that with only eight total shots in the first half.
After the break, Parente scored his second of the night, a chip over Capital goalkeeper Justin Niswonger (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), in the 53rd minute. Niswonger didn't make any saves in the game and was only challenged the two times.
Capital's offense took 11 total shots but only one on goal.
With the loss, Capital is now tied for fifth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference with an OAC record of 3-3-1. The Crusaders will travel to Heidelberg University, the team Capital is tied with, on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Kickoff for that match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
