COLUMBUS, Ohio – A day after Capital University Women's Soccer scored seven goals in a win, Capital Men's Soccer (9-4, 3-1 OAC) scored six in a 6-0 win over the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies (2-10-1, 0-4 OAC).
Capital put the first score on the board in the 18th minute. With a Muskingum defender on the ball deep in his own end, Calvin Saunders (Winston-Salem, N. C./West Forsyth) pressured the ball and forced a turnover. Forward Chewy Gordon (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) was right there to pick up the loose ball and shot it into the back of the net.
Almost 20 minutes later, Capital doubled its lead with a goal from Dominic Zumpone (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) with the assist to Greg Knox (Oxford, Mich./Oxford). The goal was Zumpone's second of the year.
Just two minutes after that, Tyler Wujczyk (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) scored his third goal of the season and increased Cap's lead to 3-0 with the assist again going to Knox. In the first half, Capital outshot Muskingum 17-3.
The second half was much of the same. Gordon netted his second of the night in the 64th minute from the penalty spot and just one minute later, Saunders scored his first of the year and the Crusaders went up 5-0. Saunders added another in the 72nd minute to get Cap to six goals on the night.
Capital goalkeeper Justin Niswonger (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) made one save in the first half before making way for Logan Wiedman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) in the second. Wiedman made three saves. The Fighting Muskies were only able to take six shots in the entire match compared to Capital's 33. Fourteen Crusaders took shots, led by Gordon's 11.
With the win, Capital has won three in a row and outscored its opponents 10-1 over that span. The Crusaders will hope to continue their offensive roll on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they travel to take on the University of Mount Union. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
