Blue Streaks Open Up on No. 22 Capital

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The nationally-ranked men's soccer team took a harsh loss while in Northeast Ohio on Saturday. John Carroll University defeated No. 22 Capital University, 5-0, in University Heights for its first conference loss of the season.

John Carroll (9-5-2, 6-0-1 OAC) erupted for three first-half goals with two of those coming less than two minutes apart. Myles Taylor posted the game's first goal in the 16th minute before Jesse Marinaro came back 1:49 later to score the first of his two goals in the match. Marinaro came back and notched his second goal just nine seconds before the half expired, giving JCU a 3-0 lead heading into the locker room. Marinaro was involved in all three goals after all assisting on the team's first.

Capital was limited to just one shot attempt in the first half, and just three in the second. John Carroll blasted 11 shots in the first but was slowed to just five in the second.

John Carroll added two goals in the second half coming from Hayden Parente (57') and Justin Miller (83'). For both of them, it was their fifth of the season.

The loss served as Cap's first in conference play and drops their record to 4-1-2 in the OAC. They are now 12-2-2 overall. Capital is still in second place in the OAC team standings with two matches left to play. Both of those games will be played in the friendly confines of Purmort Field at Bernlohr Stadium, beginning with a midweek game against Heidelberg University on Tuesday night. Kickoff between the Student Princes and the Crusaders.
