Freshman Trevor Collins' (Powell, Ohio/ Olentangy Liberty) speed leads to Capital's first goal of the match. Collins recovered the ball inside the 18-yard box and dribbled the ball to the top of the six-yard box. He took a shot which beat the keeper to the far post, giving Cap a 1-0 lead.
In the first half Capital outshot the Pioneers 5-2. The Crusaders also earned more corner kicks, 3-1. The back line for Cap was staunch in the first half by holding Marietta to zero shots on goal.
In the 53rd minute, senior Hunter Booth (Liberty Township, Ohio) was able to get a long cross into the box for Capital. Senior Cheyn Roux (Davidson, N.C.) headed the well placed cross into the back of the net beating the keeper to the lower near post.
At the 74-minute mark junior Justin Niswonger (Centerville, Ohio) made a world-class diving save as Zach Johnson took a shot inside the six-yard box.
Niswonger improves to 11-0-2 on the season and picks up his seventh shutout of the season. He improved his goals-against average to 0.46 and his save percentage to .867 on the season.
Once again the Crusaders defense was stout. They held the Pioneers to just four shots for the entirety of the match. Cap outshot Marietta 9-4 while taking the advantage in corner kicks, 9-3. Today's match is the third in-a-row in which Cap has surrendered four shots or fewer.
Capital is now 12-1-2 overall and 4-0-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference. The Crusaders return to action on Saturday night, as they travel to University Heights to battle with the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
