GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team was in action Wednesday night as they traveled to Granville to battle with the Big Red of Denison University. Cheyn Roux scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory.
In the 36th minute, junior Calvin Saunders (Winston-Salem, N.C.) recorded his first point of the season. Saunders assisted on Roux's goal. Roux took the shot from 12 yards out and beat the keeper.
Junior Justin Niswonger (Centerville, Ohio) got the start in goal for the Crusaders. In the first half he made two saves to keep the score 1-0 heading into halftime. Niswonger made another save in the second half giving him three on the night.
Niswonger improves to 3-0 on the season. In those three matches, he has a save percentage of 1.000. He has made nine saves in those matches. Niswonger leads the OAC in save percentage as well as goals against with zero.
Roux has now scored goals in back-to-back matches. In five games this season he has tallied five goals. Roux is currently second in the OAC with his five goals.
Despite being outshot 12-11, Cap was able to capitalize with a goal. Denison also took more corner kicks than the Crusaders, 1-0.
The Crusaders defense has been stout and has now recorded four shutouts on the season.
Capital improves to 4-1 overall on the season and are on a four-game winning streak. Cap returns to action this Saturday as they take on Waynesburg University. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m., right after the Capital women's soccer match against Waynesburg. The women's match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
