DELAWARE, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team was in action against No. 4 Calvin College Friday afternoon in the Fred Myers Invitational. Senior Cheyn Roux scored the first goal of the season for the Crusaders.
The Knights came out firing with a shot at the 1:50 mark. Not to be outdone, Capital answered with a shot less than a minute later.
Cap fell behind after Calvin scored two goals, the first at the 12 minute mark and the second at the 22 minute mark.
With less than 10 minutes left to go in the first half, Cheyn Roux (Davidson, N.C.) scored his first goal of the season. Freshman Trevor Collins (Powell, Ohio/ Olentangy Liberty) earned his first career point with an assist. Collins started the play with a run up the right side. He then cut in towards the box and sent a cross into the box which allowed Roux to finish and cut the Knights lead to 2-1.
The goal by Roux marks back-to-back seasons that Roux has scored a goal in the season opener.
Calvin added two more goals in the second half which made the final score 4-1.
Junior Trevor Funk (Dublin, Ohio/ Bishop Watterson) got the start in goal for the Crusaders. He made three saves.
The Crusaders saw seven different players take shots. Capital finished the game with seven shots, three in the first half and four in the second half. Cap tied Calvin with four corner kicks.
Capital looks to bounce back on Saturday afternoon against Hope College. The match is scheduled to start at 4:30 at Ohio Wesleyan University in the Fred Myers Invitational.
