Men’s Soccer Plays to 2-2 Stalemate with Arch-Rival Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Capital University men's soccer team spent Saturday afternoon facing the Otterbein University Cardinals in a match that ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Cardinals (6-4-2, 1-1-1 OAC) scored their first goal in the 21st minute as junior midfielder Ross Pfeil, crossed into the box, placing the ball inside the near post.

Capital (4-7-1, 2-0-1 OAC) was aided by an Otterbein mistake when a ball was served in the box which deflected off a Cardinal defender, resulting in an own goal.

With the score tied at one apiece in the 59th minute Chewy Gordon (Westerville, Ohio) headed in a goal off a deflection following a Crusader corner kick.

Otterbein's Luis Rivas scored the tying goal in the 64th minute, converting off of a header from Erick Juarez-Manning.

Calvin Saunders (Winston Salem, N.C.) paced the Crusaders with four shots, one on goal. Hunter Booth (Liberty Township, Ohio) and Cheyn Roux (Davidson, N.C.) both added two shots on goal.

Capital held minor leads in shots (19-16) and corner kicks (8-4). While Otterbein led in saves, 9-3.

Justin Niswonger (Centerville, Ohio) saved seven shots in his 110 minutes in goal. His record is now 3-2-1 on the season.

Next up, the Crusaders return to Bernlohr Stadium to face the Wilmington Quakers on Wednesday, October 14 at 7 p.m.
