COLUMBUS, Ohio ¬– The Capital University men's soccer team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play against the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders on Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium. Capital came out on top, 3-1, after a two-goal performance by Hunter Stiger.
Capital jumped out to an early lead in the seventh minute when junior Hunter Stiger (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored on a cross from junior Cheyn Roux (Davidson, N.C.). Stiger struck again in the 11th minute when he connected on a shot off a rebound off burying it in the back of the net.
The Crusaders went into the half with a 3-0 lead.
The Purple Raiders scored first in the second half on a goal from Jesse Tinney in the 53rd minute
The Crusader defense was stout only allowing one shot in the first half and only six shots over the course of the match. Sophomore Justin Niswonger (Centerville, Ohio) recorded his second win of the season.
Capital (3-4-1, 1-0 OAC) will be in action against conference foe Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m.
