BEREA, Ohio – Capital University Men's Soccer suffered a road defeat in the final game of the regular season, 4-0, to Baldwin Wallace University. Despite the loss, they are still set to compete in the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 5 seed.
Baldwin Wallace (9-10-1 overall, 5-3-1 OAC) set the tone with a goal in the ninth minute when Trey Arney headed in the opening tally off a corner taken by Michael Brennan. It was the first of three first-half goals scored by the Yellow Jackets.
Zach Smith and Cody Smith each added a goal before entering halftime, each assisted by Brennan. Zach Smith's goal came off of a rebound that was cleaned up from outside the 18-yard line and Cody Smith's came as part of a fast break.
Jared Abston added one more tally in the 79th minute to lead to a 4-0 score.
The Crusaders (9-8-1 overall, 4-4-1 OAC) outshot the Yellow Jackets , 13-9, but were unable to find the back of the net. R.G. Florey led the charge with five attempts, two of which fell on frame.
Despite the loss, Capital is still primed to compete in the upcoming OAC Men's Soccer Tournament, which will begin on Monday, Nov. 3. The Crusaders will serve as the No. 5 seed in the six-team tournament and hit the round for its first-round matchup. They will open at No. 4 Ohio Northern University (12-7-1 overall, 5-3-1 OAC), the defending OAC Tournament Champions and NCAA Tournament participant from a season ago. Kickoff is set for Monday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m.
