Capital Men’s Lax Predicted to Finish Fourth in OAC Preseason Poll

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The results of the annual Ohio Athletic Conference's men's lacrosse coaches' preseason poll was announced on Wednesday with Capital University picked to finish in fourth with 59 points. Capital finished in fourth last year with a 5-3 conference record.

Ohio Northern University and John Carroll University each earned 75 points in this year's poll and each team finished 7-1 in the OAC last year. Ohio Northern received six of the 10 first-place votes in this year's poll and John Carroll received the remaining four. Baldwin Wallace University tallied 68 points in third.

Following the Crusaders, Otterbein University garnered 44 points in fifth and the University of Mount Union is right behind the Cardinals with 42 points. Muskingum University, last year's ninth-placed team has been picked to finish seventh with 31 points.

Heidelberg University and Wilmington College were tabbed to place eighth and ninth with 22 points and 19 points, respectively. Conference newcomers Marietta College round out the poll with 16 points.

Junior attacker C.J. Hughes will lead the Crusaders on offense after he scored 48 goals and tallied 22 assists last year for a total of 70 points, the second-most on the team. His 22 helpers tied for the team lead. Behind Hughes, senior Barrett Naugle is Capital's second-highest scoring returner after he found the back of the net 17 times in 2018. Senior goalkeeper T.J. Johnson will be entering his first year as a starter between the sticks.

As a team last year, Capital scored the fourth-most goals in the OAC with 227 and were second in goals per game with 14.19. Capital was the fifth-best defensive team in the conference last year with a goals against average of 9.69.
