AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced its final performance weekly awards and Capital Men's Lacrosse swept both the offensive and defensive accolades. Attackman Brennan O'Callaghan was crowned Offensive Player of the Week, while goaltender Cole Palmby earned Defensive Player of the Week.
For Capital, this marks the program's third and fourth player of the week honors this season. For Palmby, this is his fifth career accolade of the like. O'Callaghan now has four player of the week awards in his three seasons.
Without playing the full 120 minutes possible over the course of the week, Palmby put up numbers between the posts that went untouched. In 45 minutes against Wilmington College, the junior made 11 saves and surrendered just five goals, good for a .688 save percentage. He also collected two ground balls in the lopsided win. At ONU, Palmby made 11 more saves on 34 shots faced. He now has seven matches with 10 or more saves in a game, this season.
O'Callaghan tied a career high with seven goals and one assist in a large-scale win at Wilmington. He came back in a second road contest to score four goals and two helpers for a six-point game in a critical win. He recorded four ground balls over the course of the week, two in each game. He now has a team-high 52 goals, 14 assists, and 28 ground balls this season.
Capital will now prepare for its semi-final matchup with No. 2 Baldwin Wallace University in Berea on Tuesday, 7 p.m. from George Finnie Stadium. The winner will go on to play the winner of No. 1 John Carroll University / No. 4 Otterbein on Saturday, May 6.
