AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced the release of its 2017 Preseason Coaches' Poll on Wednesday morning. In its first year under new leadership, Capital University was picked to finish fourth out of nine teams.

Capital sits behind rival Otterbein University in the coaches' poll and only trails the Cardinals by a mere three points. Sitting in second after receiving four out of nine first-place votes in Baldwin Wallace University (59). Collecting the remaining five and edging out the Yellow Jackets for the right to be called pre-season favorite is defending OAC Tournament Champion, John Carroll University (61).

Heidelberg University enters its first year sponsoring a varsity men's lacrosse program and rounds out the list of nine teams.

Capital comes off of a 2016 campaign in which they recorded more than 10 wins and advanced to the OAC Tournament for the second straight season. The Crusaders lost in the OAC Tournament semi-final round to the eventual champion, John Carroll. The Purple and White will be led by Head Coach Dom Marzano who enters his first year with the program after spending the previous three at Wilmington College.

While a strong core of last year's squad and 2015's OAC Tournament runners-up will return, a wave of talented freshmen has strengthened the midfield and added depth to this veteran squad. The Crusaders will take the field for the first time this Sunday, Feb. 19 on Purmort Field at Bernlohr Stadium. The opening faceoff will be held at 1 p.m.
