WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team was in action Wednesday against rival Otterbein University. The Crusaders fell, 9-6.
After Otterbein scored the first goal at the 12-minute mark, sophomore Carson Paull (Sandpoint, Idaho) tied the game up with an unassisted goal.
Just under the nine-minute mark, sophomore Brennan O'Callaghan (West Chester, Ohio/ Lakota East) scored off of a pass from Paull. Junior Brent Walton (Pickerington, Ohio/ Pickerington Central) scored less than a minute after O'Callaghan. O'Callaghan assisted on the Walton goal.
The Cardinals scored the last goal in the first quarter, but the Crusaders held the lead 3-2.
The Cardinals went on a 5-0 run spanning the remainder of the second quarter and all of the third quarter.
Hess scored at the 8:11 mark on a pass from Simon. After Christian Crossingham (Sandpoint, Idaho) won the draw, he sprinted down the field. Crossingham then dished the ball to O'Callaghan who put it home for the goal. The Otterbein lead was cut to 8-6.
O'Callaghan finished the game with two goals to lead Capital and added one assist. He extended his multi-point streak to 17 games.
As a team, the Crusaders caused nine of the 16 Cardinals turnovers. Capital finished with 36 shots, 18 ground balls, and won nine faceoffs.
The Crusaders are now 11-5 overall and 3-3 in the OAC. Capital returns to action on Saturday, April 30 as they host Muskingum University at 1 p.m. The Crusaders will need help from Otterbein on Saturday. Capital must win and the Cardinals must beat the University of Mount Union in order for the Crusaders to make the OAC Tournament.
