Men’s Lacrosse Picks Up Sixth Win at Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Transylvania University was unable to keep pace with the Capital University men's lacrosse team's offensive attack on Saturday afternoon.

Transylvania (4-5) took its one and only lead in the early minutes of the game when Clark Watts took advantage of the Pioneers' man-up situation to score the first goal of the game.

Following six consecutive missed Capital (7-2) shots, Brennan O'Callaghan (West Chester, Ohio) made the seventh shot count to tie the game. After a back and forth first half, the Crusaders took a 5-4 lead into intermission.

The Crusaders increased their lead to three after goals were scored by Jeff Simmons (Lewis Center, Ohio) and Johnathan Mundell (Mt. Holly Springs, Pa.). Mundell's goal came during a man-up opportunity.

The Pioneers quickly responded as Zack Riggs and Zach Roby scored a pair of goals to bring the score to 7-6.

Freshman attackman Ted Crites (Waukee, Iowa) was responsible for Capital's biggest lead of the game, finding the net twice in less than a minute in the fourth quarter. The goals gave the Crusaders a 10-6 lead.

Riggs and Roby brought the Pioneers back within two at the 4:01 mark but O'Callaghan's late goal with under two minutes to play sealed the victory for Capital.

O'Callaghan continues to lead the Crusaders in goals and this game was no different as he finished with five. He took nine shots with six of them landing on goal.

Sophomore midfielder Michael Trefethern (Canfield, Ohio) picked up seven ground balls, while Danny Davide (Massilon, Ohio) finished with six. Davide also caused a pair of turnovers.

Freshman Cole Palmby (Delaware, Ohio) played all 60 minutes at goalkeeper, recording 12 saves against 21 shots.

The Crusaders return to Bernlohr Stadium on Wednesday, April 1 against Franciscan University (0-8). The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
