WEST LAFAYETTE, Ohio – What in recent history has been an exhibition dual match had the stakes raised between two Columbus rivals. On Wednesday afternoon, Capital University and Otterbein University went head-to-head in a dual match at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio.

In a true test between rivals, Wednesday's 18-hole match showed great promise for Capital. The Crusaders lost the dual by 10 strokes, but the gap between CU and the defending championship proves the Purple and White is making its move toward peak performance as they close in on the OAC Championship next month.

The team title landed with the Cardinals, led by first-place finisher Johnny Peck (70). Otterbein's four scorers combined for an 18-hole score of 302.

The Purple and White were led by senior Noah Iovino (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome), who fell just one stroke off the pace of the match's top finisher. His score of 71 (-1) served as a new career best and he now joins the list of top 18-hole scorers in recorded Capital history. He now joins 30 other performances that finished at a 71 or lower in a single round.

Senior Logan Holbrook (Logan, Ohio/Logan) also cracked the top half of performers with an eighth-place finish behind a score of 79.

Rounding out Capital's starting five was Chris Dearth (80), Ryan Wright (82) and Ryan Czerniakowski (84).

Capital's Luke McCollough (85) and Nick Brunsman (87) also competed on Wednesday as individuals.

Despite the rivalry, Wednesday's round also found both teams rejoicing in the return of Otterbein senior Kurt Fortman. Fortman competed this fall but had serious heart surgery in December and was unsure if a return to the links was possible. His return was a success after he shot par (72) and finished tied for third, competing as an individual.

The Crusaders and Cardinals will face off again this weekend when they join a larger field at the Otterbein Spring Invitational, hosted by Otterbein at NorthStar Golf Club on April 6-7.
