Men’s Golf Closes Out Fall Season with Fifth-Place Finish

NASHPORT, Ohio – The Capital University men's golf team concluded its fall season with a two-day tournament at Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. Monday marked the final round of the Virtues Shootout, hosted by Denison University. The Crusaders placed fifth out of seven teams and were led by senior Logan Holbrook's fourth-place finish.

The Crusaders began the tournament with a rough start on day one with a team score of 339 and only one of its five finishing under an 85 through 18 holes. Senior Logan Holbrook (Logan, Ohio/Logan) marked Cap's best individual performance, tallying a 76 on Sunday's first round.

After exiting day one in fifth place, Holbrook hopped one spot on the individual leaderboard despite shooting a score three strokes higher than the previous day. He ended the tournament tied for fourth place with a two day score of 155 (76-79).

Senior Noah Iovino (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) turned in the next-best score among the Capital golfers and the team's largest improvement between rounds one and two. Iovino shot an 89 on day one and then had a 10-shot turnaround on Monday. He finished with a two-day total of 168 (89-79) which placed him 23rd in a field of 48 competitors.

Chris Dearth (85-87-172) and Ryan Wright (89-87-176) rounded out the Capital scorers, finishing 30th and 36th, respectively. Ryan Czerniakowski (90-91-181) also competed as part of Capital's lineup.

Host Denison took the team title with a 629 team score, followed by Allegheny College (633) and Thomas More College (643). Allegheny's Alex Lawson took home top medalist honors behind a line of 74-75-149. Capital finished fifth with a team score of 671, six strokes off the pace off the heels of fourth-place Muskingum University and five ahead of sixth-place Marietta College.
