TIFFIN, Ohio – The first half of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championship concluded on Monday afternoon, where the Capital University men's golf team competed t Mohawk Golf and Country Club. The Purple and White finished fifth overall out of eight teams, and were paced by sophomore Logan Holbrook's top-five finish.
Logan Holbrook (Logan, Ohio) once again led Capital's lineup with a two-day score of 147. On day one, the sophomore shot a three-over par 75 to lead Capital's team score of 304. The Crusaders found themselves in sixth place after Sunday's action. Holbrook again paced Capital and improved his overall score by bettering his first round by three strokes. He shot par over his last 18 holes, finishing plus-3 for the tournament. His individual performance was good for a share of fourth place.
Capital's second and third finishers in their lineup modeled consistency, and resulted in a pair of top-25 finishes. Sophomore Noah Iovino (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) put together a pair of 76s to finish eight-over par (152) over the weekend. That placed him tied for 20th on the individual leaderboard. Senior Mitchell Cook (Bucyrus, Ohio) shot 77-76-153, slotting him for a share of 25th. Capital ended its stay with a 607 team score.
Otterbein University held a seven-stroke lead heading into the final day of the tournament with a log jam characterizing positions two through six. John Carroll emerged out of that latter group and challenged the Cardinals for the team title. It's eight-stroke turnaround fell just short, and Otterbein won by two strokes with its 590 (293-297) team score. Host Heidelberg University finished third (598) while Ohio Northern University (603) finished just ahead of Capital.
While the tournament is complete, these scores will carry over to the OAC Spring Invitational and serve toward the results that will name the regular season champion.
Capital will continue it fall season at the Warrior Intercollegiate Invitational on Oct. 4. The tournament will be held at Indianwood Country Club in Lake Orion, Mich.
