DOVER, Ohio – Capital Men's Golf opened its fall season this weekend with its entry into the Gatorade Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by The College of Wooster. Sophomore Logan Holbrook paced the Purple and White to a fourth place overall finish, and finished fourth overall in the individual standings.
Capital exited day one action at Zoar Village Golf Club in a tie for third place with a team score of 300. That score ties the fifth-best team low round score in recorded history. They were just one stroke off the pace of Allegheny College, while Ohio Wesleyan University rolled out a 282 to take a commanding lead.
Logan Holbrook (Logan, Ohio) served as Capital's top finished both days and shot a weekend best 72 in his first pass through the course. That score placed his name among Capital's top one-round scores for the second time in his career. He also shot a 72 last season at Royal American Links to share 15th in its recorded history.
Holbrook came back and shot a 74 on day two of the tournament, but sealed his place for a top-5 finish. He ended the day with a 146, which was Capital's top scorer.
The remaining Capital scorers shot identical scores in rounds one and two over the weekend. Senior Jeff Czerniakowski (Sylvania, Ohio) shot a pair of 75s and placed 13th overall in the field of 68 competitors.
Ohio Wesleyan was unable to match its standard-setting first round, but its 297 score was still the second-best round on day two and sealed the team victory. Allegheny's Collin Haag tied the single-round competitive tournament course record at Zoar Golf Club with a 65, and finished first overall with a 71-65-136.
Capital will have a quick turnaround and hit the links at the Jefferson Country Club (Blacklick, Ohio) for the ODU Kickoff Classic, hosted by Ohio Dominican University.
