Iovino Sits Atop Field After Day One of OAC Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ohio -- The Capital University men's golf freshmen have been playing extrordinarily over the last few weeks, and that play continued heading into day one of the 2016 OAC Men's Golf Championship. Noah Iovino heads the pack after the first day, and Capital finds itself in second place, overall.

The Crusaders currently house two top-five placers after the first day of the championship, held at River Greens Golf Course. Freshman Noah Iovino currently shares first place overall on the individual leader board after shooting his best score of the season with a 72. He shares that with Austin Wilkinson of host Muskingum University, who is currently in sixth place as a team.

Fellow freshman Logan Holbrook finished day one tied for fifth place, shooting a 74 through 18 holes. That marks the third such score he has turned in this season and fifth of 74 or lower.

Though nearly 10 spots behind in the standings, Phillip Martin is just two strokes behind Holbrook with a 76. Daniel Shafer is two shots behind him with a 78.

The University of Mount Union holds the team lead after day one with a 298. Capital is just two shots of the pace with a 300, while Ohio Northern University is just one stroke back of the Crusaders. They and regular season champion Otterbein University share that spot.

Capital will begin play at 9 a.m. from River Greens on Saturday. Follow along on Twitter, @CapCrusaders, for more updates.
