Men’s Golf Finishes Third at OAC Spring Invitational

HUDSON, Ohio – The Capital University men's golf team walked away from Thursday's Ohio Athletic Conference Spring Invitational with a share of third place, marking the end of its regular season slate. Logan Holbrook paced Capital with a top-10 finish while the Purple and White had two additional top-15 placers.

Thursday's tournament was played at the Country Club of Hudson (Hudson, Ohio) where a field of eight teams took to the par-72, 6,725-yard course for 27 holes. The tournament was originally scheduled for last weekend but was postponed due to poor weather and course conditions.

Fresh off of a head-to-head victory over rival Otterbein University, Capital (305-155-460) took home a share of third place in the invitational. The Cardinals (301-149-450) wrapped up its sixth straight OAC regular season championship after totaling the best team score from the OAC fall and spring tournaments, but placed second on Thursday.

Ohio Northern University was the clubhouse leader with a team score of 298-148-446, bettering the Cardinals by four strokes. Sharing third with Capital was John Carroll University, who made up a four-stroke different over the final nine holes.

Buster Thomas of the University of Mount Union took top medalist honors with an individual scorecard of 68-38-106, which marked a 2-under par for the day.

Freshman Logan Holbrook (Logan, Ohio) was one of five players to log in a 114 over the 27-hole event, sharing that mark with three Otterbein players. After shooting a 75, 3-over par in his first pass through the course he came back to shoot a 39, 3-over par on the back nine to wrap up his day.

Junior Jeff Czerniakowski (Sylvania, Ohio) and senior Daniel Shafer (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) placed inside the top-15 in a field of 48 competitors. Each carded a 115 over 27 holes, while Phillip Martin (119) rounded out the list of Capital scorers.

Capital will now prepare for its season finale at the OAC Championships, held April 29 to May 1 at River Greens in West Lafayette, Ohio.
