HARROD, Ohio – The Capital University men's golf team competed in the annual Ohio Northern University Spring Invitational at the Colonial Golfers Club in Harrod, Ohio, this weekend. Weather altered the early parts of the tournament, while the Crusaders placed third out of eight teams.
In a weather-shortened first round, Capital found itself tied for first after nine holes on Saturday. Junior Jeff Czerniakowski (Sylvania, Ohio) sat tied for fifth overall following the opening round, posting a 40 despite conditions that ended play prematurely. Junior Phillip Martin (Akron, Ohio) bettered that mark with a 39 through nine holes, but fell back on Sunday.
After posting a 164 after day one, Capital returned Sunday and shot a team score of 319, playing a full 18 under far better conditions than the previous day. Freshman Logan Holbrook (Logan, Ohio) shot the best second-day score of all Crusaders with a 77, and found himself just inside the top 10 for the weekend. He finished with a 120 (43-77) for the invitational.
Czerniakowski placed in a tie for sixth overall, marking the Crusaders' best score of the weekend (40-79-119).
Tiffin University took the team title behind a scorecard of 164-304-468 and housed the individual winner, Eddie O'Brien (37-75-112). Host Ohio Northern finished second overall (478) and Baldwin Wallace University finished behind Capital with a 488 (165-323).
Capital will partake in the OAC Spring Invitational, hosted by John Carroll University, on April 10-11 at the Shaker Heights Country Club.
