Men’s Golf Finishes MVNU Classic in Fourth Place

MOUNT VERNON, OhioDaniel Shafer led the Capital University men's golf team, pacing them to a fourth place overall finish at this weekend's Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougar Classic.

Shafer, a senior from Hilliard, Ohio, tied for second on the overall individual leaderboard with a two-round total of 146 (71-75). His first-round 71 led all participants but his second set of 18 dropped him top medalist B.J. White from Indiana Wesleyan University, who competed as an individual.

White shot a second-round 69 to bounce ahead of the field and finish two strokes ahead of Shafer.

Sophomore Ryan Kimmerling (Nobelsville, Ind.) was consistent with a 78 and 79 over 36 holes, closing out his tournament finish with a 157.

Freshman Logan Holbrook (75-83-158), junior Jeff Czerniakowski (82-79-161) and junior Phillip Martin (79-86-165) rounded out Capital's team lineup. The Crusaders finished fourth out of a field of 10 teams with a 619 (303-316) final tally.

Host Mount Vernon Nazarene's 'A' team won the team title with a 604, holding of Indiana Wesleyan (608) and St. Francis (Ind.) University (609).
