GALENA, Ohio – Capital University Men's Golf hosted its annual fall invitational at Royal American Links in Galena, Ohio on Friday afternoon. The Crusaders joined Otterbein University and Ohio Northern University in a three-team field.
In a field of 25 competitors, senior Daniel Shafer (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and junior Jeff Czerniakowski (Sylvania, Ohio) earned a top-10 placement with identical 152 scorecards after 36 holes of play. Shafer shot even par with a 72 in his first pass through of the course. However, he followed that up by shooting an 80 in Friday's second round. Czerniakowski shot a four-over par, 76 in each round.
Four different Crusaders turned in a tournament total of 159. Junior Phil Martin (Akron, Ohio) headed that pack and was joined by sophomores Ben McCollough and Ryan Kimmerling, and freshman Noah Iovino. The latter three all competed as individuals.
Otterbein posted the lowest team score and hosted the invitational's top medalist, as well. David Monaco shot a 68, four-under par and 67, five-under par for a grand total of 135 – seven shots better than the next nearest competitor. Otterbein had the event's three lowest scorers, joined by Luke Kindelin (142) and Tyler Elgin (143).
Ohio Northern finished 24 strokes behind Otterbein for second place while Capital shot a team score of 625.
Capital will prepare for the Ohio Athletic Conference Fall Championship to be held at the Colonial Golf Club (Harrod, Ohio) on Oct. 3-4.
