Men’s Golf Holds for Third Place at OAC Spring Invitational

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Paced by another strong day for Parker McComb, the Capital University men's golf team finished third in the final team standings of the Ohio Athletic Conference Spring Invitational.

McComb (Gahanna, Ohio) improved his individual placing, elevating himself to a share for third place overall and did so by replicating his first round score. The senior's second-round 76 helped him put together a two-day total of 152, tying him with two Ohio Northern University players that competed as individuals.

Junior Daniel Shafer (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) fell one shot off his first round score, stringing together a 79 and a tournament score of 157, good for a share of 12th place.

Sophomore Jeff Czerniakowski (Sylvania, Ohio) showed the largest day-to-day improvements, turning in a scorecard four strokes better than his day-one score. His day-two 79 helped him lift his individual placing to 23rd with a tournament score of 162.

Freshman Ryan Kimmerling (Nobelsville, Ind.) and sophomore Phillip Martin (Akron, Ohio) put together scorecards of 80-83-163 and 86-84-170, respectively.

Otterbein University and Ohio Northern University both shot team scores of 615. The Polar Bears won the team title by virtue of a playoff. Otterbein's David Monaco and ONU's Blaine Rickets shared identical 148 totals, but Monaco won his tiebreaker to take top medalist honors.

Capital will wrap up its season at the OAC Championships, a three-day event being held at River Greens Golf Course (West Lafayette, Ohio) that begins on Friday, April 24.
