Weingartner Tabbed OAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Following a career performance and a solid pair of outings, Capital University senior Joey Weingartner was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, December 3.

Joey Weingartner (Circleville, Ohio/Circleville) dropped a new career-high 32 points in the Crusaders' 79-67 win over Adrian College (Mich.), which served as 41 percent of the team's total points that evening. Along the way, the guard tied the CU single-game record for 3-pointers in a game by hitting 9-of-16 (.563) from 3-point range.

Weingartner came back and scored 16 points against rival Otterbein University on 7-14 shooting from the field. Capital went on to win both games over the course of the week to improve its record to 4-2 overall and earn its first conference win of the season. Weingartner averaged 24.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, shot 52.9 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from distance.

Capital (4-2) will take its show on the road when they play at Muskingum University on Thursday evening, Dec. 6. The Crusaders will return to The Capital Center Performance Arena to host Ohio Northern University on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.
