ADA, Ohio – In its conference road contest at Ohio Northern University, the Capital University men's basketball team faltered in an 82-60 loss at the ONU Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. Capital is now 9-10 overall and 5-7 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Out of the chute, Capital found itself down after missing seven consecutive shot attempts while Ohio Northern rolled out on a 7-2 run to begin the game. The Crusaders were unable to get into a rhythm, hitting just 29.6 percent of their 27 field goal tries and went just 1-for-11 3-point attempts. On the flip side, Ohio Northern shot 48.5 percent while Ryan Bruns and Nate Burger went for 15 and 13 points, respectively. The Polar Bears went into the locker room up 20 points, 46-26, on the Crusaders, which was all the hosts needed to create the distance needed for the win.

While Capital kept pace with the Polar Bears in the second half, it was not enough to overcome the early deficit. Capital rattled off 20 more shots than ONU in the second half, but all its points came from its bench players. Sophomore Dan Auble scored all of his eight points in the frame.

Sophomore Ganiyu Yahaya (Abuja, Nigeria/Wesleyan Christian [KY]) led the Crusaders with nine points. Junior Caleb Cox posted six points and seven rebounds, sharing the team lead in that category with junior Will Hannah.

Ohio Northern (13-6, 8-4 OAC) was led by Ryan Bruns' 26 points, six rebounds and three assists. Three other Polar Bears joined him in double figures including Nate Burger (18), Brandon Waugh (12) and Daniel Donner (10).

Capital will rebound from the loss and gear up for a second straight road game, this time against Heidelberg University. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night from Tiffin, Ohio.
