COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference named its weekly player awards on Monday, December 19. Capital University senior Tyrel Jackson was named the conference's Men's Basketball Player of the Week after his standout game against nationally-ranked Denison University and another solid performance against Baldwin Wallace University.
Against then-No. 16 Denison, Jackson led all scorers with a new career-high 31 points to lead Cap to victory against the previously unbeaten Big Red. The Dublin, Ohio native added five boards and four steals, and shot 12-for-19 (.632), including 5-for-9 (.556) from 3-point range.
Jackson followed that performance up with 12 points, four rebounds, three steals and one block in a road win at Baldwin Wallace. He helped Capital shoot 53.4 percent from the field as a team over the past week. The win extended Capital's current winning streak to four games, which matches their season long.
For Jackson, this is the first Player of the Week honor of his career. On the season, he is averaging a team-best 15.8 points per game, five rebounds per game, and leads the team in both assists (35) and steals (15).
The Crusaders are now 8-3 overall and 3-1 against OAC competition. They will rest until their next game on the road at Wilmington College on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017.
