AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced the Preseason Coaches' Poll for the 2016-17 men's basketball season. Capital University was selected to finish seventh out of 10 teams.

This year's poll features a tie at the top between John Carroll University and Marietta College. Both teams garnered five first-place votes and 77 total points in the poll, voted on by OAC coaches. Both teams are also featured in the D3Hoops.com Top-25 poll with JCU coming in at No. 11 and Marietta at No. 17.

Baldwin Wallace University (60), the University of Mount Union (54) and Ohio Northern University (50) round out the OAC top five teams, and Heidelberg University (48) was the last team to place ahead of Capital, which reeled in 30 points. The bottom three teams include Muskingum University (25), Wilmington College (19) and Otterbein University (10).

Capital was selected to finish seventh in last year's preseason poll, as well. They finished in that slot with its 12-14 overall record and 8-10 ledger in conference play under the direction of Interim Head Coach Andy Winters.

Damon Goodwin is back with the Purple and the White after missing last season due to an illness, and will be joined by seven freshmen, seven sophomores, one junior, and two seniors. Senior Curt Geise and Austin Schreck are Cap's lead returning offensive players, each averaging 7.8 points per game last season. Schreck is also Cap's leading rebounder returning from last season after averaging 4.9 boards per contest.

Capital opens its season with a pair of exhibition contests this week, with the regular season opener taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 15 versus Olivet College (Mich.) at The Capital Center Performance Arena.
