COLUMBUS, Ohio – Led by senior Mark Minch's game-high 30 points, the Capital University men's basketball team took down the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin Wallace University inside The Capital Center on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders improved to 4-2 in conference play with its 90-79 win.

After Baldwin Wallace (8-5, 3-3 OAC) took an 8-4 lead in the opening minutes of the game, Capital went on a 12-0 run with thanks to the play of seniors Michael Green (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) and Mark Minch (Cincinnati, Ohio). The duo accounted for 10 of the 12 points along that run, each scoring five in succession to prompt a 16-8 score just 6:19 into the contest. The Yellow Jackets would not hold a lead at any point for the rest of the game.

Capital (8-5, 4-2 OAC) continued to score at will and hit 58.3 percent of their field goal attempts in the first half. Minch closed out the session with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting while freshman Joe Thomas (Columbus, Ohio/Centennial) and senior A.J. Dixon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) scored six points, each, off of the bench. The Crusaders took a 10-point lead, 38-28, into halftime and in large part to holding BW standout Cam Kuhn to just four points on 1-of-7 shooting in the first half.

Both offenses exploded in the second half, combining to score a total of 103 points over a 20-minute period. The Crusaders and Yellow Jackets went blow for blow with one another, but the crowd was with the home team the entire way. Plays such as Green's behind-the-head pass to Thomas for an easy layup or junior Tyrel Jackson's cross-court inbound pass to Thomas for an open jumper kept one of Capital's largest crowds of the year on its feet, and the scoring gap wide.

Minch tied his career-high of 30 points, a mark previously set three games ago in the Crusaders' last win at Otterbein University on Dec. 19. He has now scored 20 or more points in six straight games and nine total, this season. Minch also closed out the game for a share of the team lead with seven rebounds.

Thomas also set a new career high with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting, this off of the bench. His previous best was 10 points at Olivet College on Dec. 17. Junior Curt Geise (Delphos, Ohio) earned his first start of the year, and posted six points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes.

Jay Battle led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points and four assists, while Kuhn was limited to just 13 points and 2-of-10 shooting. Eight of his points came from the free throw line. Kuhn came into the game averaging more than 24 points per game.

Capital will return to action at The Capital Center on Wednesday, Jan. 13 when they host No. 10 Marietta College. Marietta, which is ranked No. 1 in the Great Lakes region, edged Ohio Northern University, 72-71, on Saturday. The @CapCrazies and CU Society of Sports Management will be sponsoring " 'Murica Day " at The Cap Center, so sport your red, white and blue a few months early. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
