OLIVET, Mich. – Capital University senior Mark Minch scored six of the team's first 12 points to spark Capital's 83-57 victory at Olivet College on Thursday night. The Crusader duo of Minch and Michael Green combined for 31 points in the first half to build a commanding 23-point lead to carry them into the break, and beyond.
Capital (6-3 overall) controlled Olivet (0-8) from the opening minutes, beginning the game with a 12-0 run.
Mark Minch (Cincinnati, Ohio) led all players with 22 points while shooting 9-for-12 (.750) and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. The guard also pulled down three boards, an assist and a steal.
Michael Green (Dublin, Ohio) cooled down after his strong first half, finishing the game with 16 points, three assists and three rebounds.
Freshman forward Joe Thomas (Columbus, Ohio) came off the bench to score 10 points along with seven rebounds.
Three Olivet players finished with double-digit scoring totals. Junior guard Eric Ewing led the team with 14 points while Chase Brocker and Quintin Way scored 13 apiece.
The Crusaders played physical throughout the contest, scoring 44 points in the paint.
Capital finished 32-for-61 (.525) in field goals while holding the Comets to just 20-for56 (.357). Olivet also struggle from 3-point range, only making 7-of-24 (.292).
Capital recorded a season-high 49 rebounds compared to Olivet's 21.
The Crusaders will face archrival Otterbein in the first of two matchups this season on Saturday, Dec. 19. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. at the Rike Center in Westerville, Ohio.
