The Student Princes outscore their competition, on average, 31.8 to 30.2 and do so with a pass-first offense. They have run 366 pass play to 268 run plays. Tyler Stroyle leads the 'O' with 2,825 yards, 17 touchdowns, eight interceptions and a 59.1 percent completion percentage. He's been able to do all of this in large part to his offensive line, which has allowed just five sacks this season. All-American Demetrius Magee has 69 catches, 951 yards and nine touchdown grabs on the season. He is joined by two others with 30 or more catches and three touchdowns. Despite their success through the air, Cameron Vocke has hit paydirt 14 times on the ground and has 672 yards on 125 rushes (5.4 ypc).
Junior LB Trevor Summers leads the defense with 63 tackles, four of which came at a loss. The focal point on the defensive line is senior end Austin Crow, who is among the top pass rushers behind his 7.5 sacks this season. Jarett Wasson and Jermaine Burket station the DBs with 43 and 37 tackles, respectively, four picks and four pass breakups, each. The defense has racked up 31 sacks this season, good for 3.4 per game.
... Heidelberg rolled out with 40 unanswered points through the first 36 minutes of play. Quarterback Tyler Stoyle tossed for five touchdowns, two of which went to WR Demetrius Magee. David Barnett hauled in 102 of Capital's 161 passing yards and scored once.
The Crusaders have lost the last six meetings with the Student Princes, with the last Capital win coming in 2010 in a high-scoring 60-50 affair. That was also the last win of an 11-game winning streak the Crusaders had built up that began in 2000. The overall series, however, sits with Heidelberg, 39-31-1. Last year, Capital lost to Heidelberg, 61-13.
... Capital fell behind by two scores in the first quarter, but eventually got to within a touchdown of the Pioneers with a Wibbeler-to-Barnett touchdown pass. Marietta then scored three touchdowns without a Capital response to take a commanding lead, 42-14. Capital's run game struggled, leaving Wibbeler to carry the offensive load. He threw three touchdowns and eclipsed 2,500 yards on the year following a 279-yard day, but the Crusaders lost its seventh straight, 49-21, to Marietta.

Capital has won seven of its last eight season finales dating back to 2009. Last year's loss to The Berg was Cap's first season finale loss since then, and was the first time Cap had played Heidelberg in the final game of the regular season since 1983 -- a game Capital won 23-7.
Last year, QB Thomas Wibbeler became just the third Capital quarterback to reach 1,500 yards passing. That mark was reached just before he endured a season-ending injury against John Carroll in 2016. With more than 200 yards passing against No. 2 Mount Union, Wibbeler against surpassed the 1,500-yard mark and after last week's game at BW became the first 2,000 yard passer since Marty Assman (2,382 yards, 2009). He currently has 2,539 yards, 27 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, which are the best numbers since 2010 when Chase Carris threw for 1,905 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 picks.
Junior QB Thomas Wibbeler is having one of the best seasons for a Capital quarterback in nearly a decade. Currently, he is ...
(single season)
6th in passing yards - 2,539 (60 away from 5th)
3rd in passing TDs - 27 (1 from 2nd, 9 from 1st)
6th in completions - 191 (4 from 5th, 34 from 4th)
He has already tied the school record for TD passes in a game (6) set by Shawn Wheeler in 1999. He is also tied for the sixth-longest pass play in school history (75 yards).
Looking at the Capital Football records, WR David Barnett cracked into the top-10 in single-season receiving yards ... as a freshman. Follow along as Barnett and new partner in crime on the outside, Dartavious Stanford, begin a new climb up the Cap Top-10 ladder for receiving yards and touchdown grabs.

Receiving yardage

Dartavious Stanford has made his way into the single-season top-10 for receiving yards in a season! Following the Marietta game, he now has 990 yards, which ranks him fifth. He now resides behind Lewis Howes (1,021; 2005) and is 31 yards from jumping into fourth in a single season. The single-season record is held by Keith Willike, who in 1987 recorded 1,331 yards on 78 catches.

10. Kive Kraft (2005) ... 791 yards, 68 rec., 10 TDs
11. Dan Petersen (2001) ... 784 yards, 50 rec., 12 TDs

David Barnett (2017) ... 724 yards.

Touchdown receptions

t-4th. Dartavious Stanford (2017) / Derrick Alexander (2006) ... 11 TDs
t-5th. Matt White (2011), Kive Kraft (2005), David Barnett (2016), David Barnett (2017) ... 10 TDs
