AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Capital University's Derek Eibon has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 19. The honor was announced on Monday afternoon following his career performance as part of a road win against Muskingum University.

Eibon, a native of Amherst, Ohio, had a career day as he and the Crusaders held the Muskingum Muskies to 16 points and under 100 rushing yards on the day. The ball hawk that featured 19 total tackles, nine of those were solo. Both of those numbers are new career highs. Eibon also had a fumble recovery in the first half of the game and broke up two Musky passes.

With Eibon as one of its undisputed leaders, the Capital defense held Muskingum to just 25 percent third-down conversion efficiency. The Purple and White held Muskingum starting running back Jordan Scanlon to just 44 yards on 11 carries. No other ball carrier has more than 20 yards.

The award is Eibon's first and marks the first Capital player to be named OAC Defensive Player of the Week since Nov. 3, 2014.

Capital (1-1, 1-0 OAC) is set to host Wilmington College (0-2, 0-1) this weekend at 7 p.m. on its Fall Family Day.
