In 1978, the Alumni Varsity “C” Association established the Capital University Athletic Hall of Fame. This tradition at Capital pays a deserving tribute to athletes who have contributed to and have helped perpetuate the long and distinguished history of Capital University Athletics.
Since 1978, 205 individual athletes and coaches, including those being honored today, have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Since 1957, 58 individuals have received the Hugo C. Wenzel Award of Merit. This award recognizes those men and women who have directly or indirectly aided the physical education/athletics program at Capital or who have achieved success and recognition in the field of coaching and physical education/athletics as a vocation.
The Crusader Distinguished Service Award was designed to provide public recognition and honor to those men and women who have used their time, talents or expertise in support of, and in service to, the Capital University athletic program, and who do not otherwise qualify for Athletic Hall of Fame consideration.
A display of all honorees is located on the walls of The Capital Center Field House.
