COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University athletic website will be unveiling a fresh look on Monday, July 31, 2017. The reveal represents the renewal of the partnership between Cap Athletics and PrestoSports, while offering a fresh look with improved functionality.
"We're all very excited to showcase the new athletic website," said Sports Information Director Ryan Gasser. "This has been a long time in the making and reflects Cap Athletics' desire to modernize its look and functionality for our fans and supporters."
The process to update the athletic website began nearly two years ago when data was being collected from fans, staff, students, and coaches regarding what they would like to see and experience when navigating athletics.capital.edu – the official online home of Capital University Athletics.
"The most notable features that were highlighted as top priorities were access to social media, video, and a more modern look," said Gasser. "We also learned that we needed to reorganize some items to showcase the work that has been done to the website by our current staff as well as former members of the sports information department. I think we achieved improvement in all of those areas."
Fans will likely notice the emphasis on the color purple in the scheme of the website, plus a new layout that brings the social media scene to the forefront. Capital Athletics social media is now front and center, and each team that engages in various social media platforms will have their mediums made accessible on the home page.
Additional emphasis was put on imagery of the campus, cities of Bexley and Columbus, and highlighting Cap student-athletes. Users will notice student-athletes being featured on dropdown menus, The Capital Center in the site's background, and the Columbus skyline at the bottom of the page.
Many more features and pages will be more accessible to users, as well.
"While reorganizing the site, we found that many pages were hidden or were three and four clicks from getting to where users wanted to be," said Gasser. "We added a few more pathways to get people where they want to go faster with the use of buttons, carousels, rotating graphics, and quick-click tabs."
Gasser also noted that mobile usage was a high priority with today's on-the-go lifestyle being commonplace. The mobile site will also receive a makeover, and stay consistent with the department's mission to keep the most trafficked pages just a few taps away.
"I encourage everybody to dive right into the new website to experience the cool new features we've introduced," said Gasser. "It certainly is different than the previous site, but I think once everyone starts clicking or tapping around, they'll come to enjoy it."
