Kathryn Walton and Patrick Avellano
Women's Lacrosse and Baseball
For the first time in school history, we have selected two Crusaders of the Week! Sophomore Kathryn Walton was instrumental for Capital Women's Lacrosse in three games, all Crusader wins. The attacker totalled 11 goals and four assists in the three wins and got it done on the defensive end as well with 10 caused turnovers and 10 ground balls. Against Cabrini University on Feb. 26, Walton found the back of the net six times and had two helpers for eight points, a career best. SHe followed that performance with four scores and two assists on Feb. 28 against Neumann University and she caused five turnovers, picked up four ground balls and won six draw controls against the Knights. Although she only scored once against the University of Redlands on March 3, Walton was part of a smothering defensive unit that held the Bulldogs to two goals in the first half.
Senior pitcher Patrick Avellano was dominate in two starts this past week, both wins. The righty did not allow any runs over 13.0 innings and gave up only eight toal hits while striking out 10. In his first start on Feb. 24 against Grove City College, Avellano went seven innings and struck out five in a 9-3 win. He almost duplicated those stats on March 2 against Rhode Island College with six innings of scoreless, four-hit ball and again sat five batters down via the strikeout in a 12-1 victory.
